It is a 2.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This engine is able to make 227 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque. With the 93-octave premium fuel, it will be stronger and will be able to produce 250 horsepower. The engine will be linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will be offered with the front-wheel drive system as standard while the all-wheel drive configuration will be optional.
As for the fuel economy, the front-wheel drive model will be rated at 22 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive variant will get 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. Its maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds.

The interior features
The cabin of the 2020 Mazda CX-9 features three rows of seats and it is able to welcome up to seven passengers. We can not say the same for the third row which is the best for kids since it lacks leg room for adults on longer rides. In front of the driver, there is a wide console and in the center of the dashboard, there is a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen. The higher trim levels will feature a larger 8.0-inch screen for the infotainment system. The whole cabin is made of high-quality materials and the base model will get cloth seats. The higher trim levels will get leather upholstery.
Speaking of the cargo space, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 offers the room of 14.4 cubic feet with all seats up. If you fold down the third row, there is a room of 38.2 cubic feet. And with both second and the third rows folded down, the CX-9 has the maximum space of 71.2 cubic feet.
We don’t expect to see bigger changes on the inside, even if Mazda update the 2020 Mazda CX-9. The reason is simple. The current model already features a cabin that looks very upscale in all aspects. The complete interior is amazingly stylish, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long.
The only major complaint goes to the cargo area, which is smaller compared to most rivals in the class. A good thing is that the third row offers quite a decent legroom, on par with models like Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer.
The equipment and safety of the new 2020 Mazda CX-9
Just like the current model, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will b available in four trim levels. And those are the base Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, and Signature models. The Sport model will come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, three-zone climate control, power features, Bluetooth connectivity, cloth seats, 18-inch wheels, two USB ports, Mazda Connect system with voice command, AM/FM/HD radio, etc. The standard safety features will include airbags, a rearview camera, traction and stability control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Touring trim will add a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, power adjustable front seats, a power liftgate, leather seats, four USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, etc. The Grand Touring version will also include 20-inch wheels, a head-up display, parking sensors, dual-pane sunroof, heated first and the second rows of seats, adaptive headlights, heated steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control.
The range-topping Signature model will get a Bose audio system with 12 speakers, standard AWD system, Nappa leather upholstery, rosewood accents, LED lighting in the grille, a moonroof, LED headlights, and LED interior lights. The Sport model will also be offered with an optional package which adds sunroof, Bose audio, satellite radio, and parking sensors.
Release date and price
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is expected to hit the market next year. The price should remain close to the current which starts at roughly $33,000.
