The base version will be the sDrive28i, with the possibility to upgrade it to xDrive AWD. If you decide to spice it up, there is a more powerful M35i model with 300 hp.
The compact model is positioned under X3. The 2022 BMW X2 will ride on the same platform and its overall length will be slightly over 172 inches. This is the same engine the X1 is using, and it forwards power through an 8-speed automatic transmission to front wheels. It is the sDrive28i and the xDrive is optional. The crossover returns over 30 mpg on the highway, which is more than the class average. The new model will be lighter and more efficient that the current edition can make 24/32 miles per gallon.
2022 BMW X2 M35i
The 2022 BMW X2 M35i improves the specs in all ways. Of all, the special turbo system is able to launch 300 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque through the same engine and gearbox. The M35i is available with AWD only and reaches 60 mph from a stop in just 4.7 seconds. That is nearly 2 seconds faster than the xDrive28i and 1.5 seconds quicker than sDrive28i. The fuel economy sacrifice is not huge, the X2 M35i keeps the mileage above 30 mpg. The start/stop system is standard, but it could be switched off.
X2 Hybrid
The iPerformance segment is already electrifying X3 and X5 models. These two will get an all-electric unit pretty soon, while the 2022 BMW X2 hybrid might be the start of the evolution for the subcompact segment. Whatsoever, the company is not providing any further details about this news, and everything remains at the level of speculations.
Options and Features
There are two packages of equipment available for the 2022 BMW X2. Each drivetrain carries a special package of equipment. The 28i model is coming with power tailgate and Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not available for the small BMW crossover. The vehicle is not big, but the infotainment screen is huge. A 9-inch display sits at the center of a dashboard. The safety system is the Active Driving Assistance package.
The M model is upgrading the performance with more than 70 ponies. That is not all, since the drive system also gets limited-slip front differential. Keyless entry and start/stop features are there. The carmaker also adds a 12-way power adjustment for front buckets. Heating and leather seats, and more infotainment accessories are there.
Pros and Cons, Competition
The price of the upcoming crossover is higher than the average for the segment. The MSRP will start above $37,000 and the M model adds over $10k. Another bad thing is that the company offers a direct rival to the 2022 BMW X2 in the X1 unit. The ride quality could be better on the upcoming vehicle and there should be more space provided for the rear row.
The performance of the X2 is its main advantage over the competition. Powerful, the noise is not reaching the cabin thanks to the superb isolation. The room for passengers in the back is suffering, but there is enough space for cargo. Of course, plenty of luxury equipment will make the new X2 more premium than its predecessor.
X1, there is competition from other German carmakers. Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLC are the biggest rivals. Lexus UX is another alternative US buyers have. Lincoln Corsair is also there, as well as the upcoming Cadillac XT3.
When Will 2022 BMW X2 Be Available?
