2020 Mazda CX-9 Changes, Price, Specs, and Redesign. This crossover has always been a choice of those who want to spice up their daily drive for a bit. Characterized by amazing driving dynamics, the current generation of this crossover has been on the market for some time and it looks like a facelift is about to come for the next year.

2020 Mazda CX 9 Interior

We are still waiting for the official confirmation, this looks pretty likely. For this occasion, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 would come with novelties in terms of the styling, but also with some tweaks on the inside. Expect to see it a little bit earlier than usual.

The new 2020 Mazda CX-9 should enter the showrooms sometime next year, and most likely in the end of 2019. This time, we anticipate some minor changes which might include more exterior colors and new wheels. The cabin is expected to get some new color combinations and perhaps more tech features in the base model. We assume that there won’t be changes in the powertrain department and it will get one sole option for all the versions.

Engine and performance of the 2020 Mazda CX-9

On the engine front, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will be using the same engine which powers the current model and there is one sole option for all the trim levels. It is a 2.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This engine is able to make 227 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque. With the 93-octave premium fuel, it will be stronger and will be able to produce 250 horsepower. The engine will be linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will be offered with the front-wheel drive system as standard while the all-wheel drive configuration will be optional.

As for the fuel economy, the front-wheel drive model will be rated at 22 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive variant will get 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. Its maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds.

Under the hood of 2020 Mazda CX-9, you will find a well-known 2.5-liter turbo inline-four engine, which in practice feels like a real V6 engine. A max output depends on the type of fuel you pour. With the regular fuel, you can count on 227 horsepower.

The power goes up to 250 hp if you use premium gasoline. In both cases, the engine responds pretty amazingly, while a 6-speed automatic transmission delivers an amazingly smooth ride.

2020 Mazda CX-9 exterior design

In terms of exterior design, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will be based on the Mazda’s “Soul of Motion” design which is elegant and very handsome. The CX-9 is very similar to the CX-5 model except it is larger. The whole body is made of organic shapes, sweeping forms, and simple lines. The front end features a long hood with a large grille and angular headlights which give it a bit aggressive look. The rear end will feature horizontal taillights and a pair of exhaust pipes which will make it look sportier. The Mazda CX-9 will ride on standard 18-inch wheels while the range-topping trims will get the larger 20-inch wheels. The more expensive models will feature LED headlamps.

The current model is already one of the pretties crossovers in the class. Based on Mazda’s famous KODO design language, it delivers splendid styling, which looks more like some elegant luxury crossover. Possible changes definitely won’t be radical, but rather subtle, with just minor tweaks to the styling.

The best thing about the CX-9 is the fact that this isn’t just a fancy-looking, but also a very exciting vehicle to drive. We saw a suspension update recently and the new model now rides even better. Most expects confirmed that the CX-9 feels like a much smaller vehicle behind the steering wheel.

We have no doubt that the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will continue to deliver class-leading handling and driving dynamics.

The interior features

The cabin of the 2020 Mazda CX-9 features three rows of seats and it is able to welcome up to seven passengers. The front seats are exceptionally comfortable and supportive the second row is also very good and can place adults without any discomfort. We can not say the same for the third row which is the best for kids since it lacks leg room for adults on longer rides. In front of the driver, there is a wide console and in the center of the dashboard, there is a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen. The higher trim levels will feature a larger 8.0-inch screen for the infotainment system. The whole cabin is made of high-quality materials and the base model will get cloth seats. The higher trim levels will get leather upholstery.

Speaking of the cargo space, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 offers the room of 14.4 cubic feet with all seats up. If you fold down the third row, there is a room of 38.2 cubic feet. And with both second and the third rows folded down, the CX-9 has the maximum space of 71.2 cubic feet.

We don’t expect to see bigger changes on the inside, even if Mazda update the 2020 Mazda CX-9. The reason is simple. The current model already features a cabin that looks very upscale in all aspects. The complete interior is amazingly stylish, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long.

The only major complaint goes to the cargo area, which is smaller compared to most rivals in the class. A good thing is that the third row offers quite a decent legroom, on par with models like Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer.

The equipment and safety of the new 2020 Mazda CX-9

Just like the current model, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will b available in four trim levels. And those are the base Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, and Signature models. The Sport model will come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, three-zone climate control, power features, Bluetooth connectivity, cloth seats, 18-inch wheels, two USB ports, Mazda Connect system with voice command, AM/FM/HD radio, etc. The standard safety features will include airbags, a rearview camera, traction and stability control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The range-topping Signature model will get a Bose audio system with 12 speakers, standard AWD system, Nappa leather upholstery, rosewood accents, LED lighting in the grille, a moonroof, LED headlights, and LED interior lights. The Sport model will also be offered with an optional package which adds sunroof, Bose audio, satellite radio, and parking sensors.
