2021 Chevy Equinox Design, Changes, Specs, and Price. Chevy is working simultaneity on the several crossover SUVs for the 2021 model year and most attention grabs arrival of the all-new full-size, truck-based Tahoe and Suburban models. Chevy was also caught testing its smaller high-riding models and the mid-size Traverse was also spotted in the prototype form. But more novelties are coming from Chevy for the 2021 market year and we will also see the facelifted 2021 Chevy Equinox
The compact Chevy Equinox competes in the hot crossover segment with some of the best-selling vehicles including the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V and Subaru Forster and it needs continual upgrades to stay in the game. The newest, third-generation Equinox arrived for the 2018 season and refreshed version will hit the market as the 2021 version.
Based on what we know so far, the updated Equinox should come with extensive styling modifications and upgraded in-cab tech and safety equipment. There are no details about the powertrain upgrades or the addition of the new engine. The next Equinox should use a 9-speed automatic transmission in lower grades. Some sources also suggest an introduction of the RS version.
2021 Chevy Equinox Performance
Chevy hasn’t yet revealed its intentions regarding the powertrain range of the refreshed 2021 Chevy Equinox but we should expect the same turbocharged petrol units. Chevy discontinued the turbodiesel option for the 2020 version due to the low demand and there are no signs about the reintroduction of the diesel unit. The model should, however, expand the availability of the 9-speed automatic transmission to lower trims.
The Equinox will again rely on the pair of the turbocharged petrol engines including 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder units. A smaller turbo-4 engine makes 170 hp and torque of 203 lb-ft in the current version. A 2.0-liter turbo-4 unit brings the power upgrade to 252 hp and torque of 260 lb-ft. The model will offer front- and all-wheel drive options in most trims.
The power and torque figures should stay the same as well as the fuel economy with possible slight improvement thanks to the use of the 9-speed automatic transmission in place of the six-speed unit.
2021 Chevy Equinox Design
Like it is the case with most mid-cycle upgrades, Chevy will bring the styling of the 2021 Chevy Equinox in line with its latest design language. The good news is that all Chevy’s future crossover SUVs should have the recently introduced Chevy Blazer’s styling as the reference point.
The result of the mid-cycle update should be the Chevy Equinox with more aggressive front fascia and new rear-end styling elements. The model should come with the new, sharper grille style influenced by the sporty Blazer model. The part of the update will also be a new two-tier headlight design with the LED signature lights placed above the main projectors.
The profile of the model seems unchanged from the current form while the rear should get new taillights and revised exhaust output. The taillights seem to have a similar design as those on the Chevy Blazer.
Some reports suggest also a possible addition of the RS version. This variant if comes should use a dark-themed exterior styling with the black grille surround, black badges and mirror caps, dark finish wheels, etc.
Interior, equipment
It’s not verified yet what level of upgrades will be in the cabin of the next Equinox but we don’t expect major interventions regarding the interior design of material quality while there should be improvements of the tech features.
The Equinox provides up to 63.5 cubic feet of the cargo space and comes with adequate materials for the price. The model will start with the cloth upholstery and offer a modern touchscreen interface with smartphone support and Wi-Fi hotspot from the entry-level model. The base version will also come with installed active safety systems such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam lights.
The mid-grades will add more comfort features and an upgraded infotainment system. The leather upholstery should appear in the top version.
2021 Chevy Equinox Release, Price
The refreshed 2021 Chevy Equinox will go on sale in the last quarter of 2020. The price corrections should be minimal. The current Equinox starts from $23, 800 and lifts the price to mid-$30,000 for the best-equipped version.
