2021 Chevy TrailBlazer Specs, Release Date, USA, and Price. Chevy revived the TrailBlaze nameplate but the all-new 2021 Chevy TrailBlazer has a redefined role in the brand’s lineup. Unlike the previous mid-sized TrailBlazer marketed between 2002 and 2009 or the global mid-size, truck-based version, the new model is a compact crossover positioned between the Trax and larger Equinox in the brand’s crossover range.
The model doesn’t have a go-anywhere capability as the truck-derived model but gets attention with aggressive styling and will appear in the RS trim. The new TrailBlazer comes also with modern interior design and should be well-equipped from the entry-level model.
Chevy hasn’t yet disclosed all model’s specs including dimensions, powertrains, equipment groups and price. Details should appear closer to the year-end.
2021 Chevy TrailBlazer Powertrains
Chevy also keeps the veil of mystery around the powertrain options it will market the 2021 Chevy TrailBlazer with. It’s not clear yet whether the all-wheel-drive option will be available and the same is about the possible availability of the electrified version.
Considering that new TrailBlazer shares the platform with the Buick Encore GX it could also use the same engines. The three-cylinder engines are the rare phenomenon in the US unlike on the Old Continent. If that would be the case to use the engines from the Encore GX, there will be a pair of turbocharged three-cylinder units. A 1.2-liter turbo -3 unit makes 137 hp and torque of 166 pound-feet. This engine should be in the combination with the continuously variable transmission system and front-wheel drive.
A 1.3-liter three-cylinder turbo engine could be an option and available with the all-wheel drive. In this case, a transmission system should be a 9-speed automatic.
However, some sources claim that new TrailBlazer will appear with the four-cylinder engine as the only option paired with the automatic transmission. The electrified version is also expected later in the life cycle.
2021 Chevy TrailBlazer Platform, Design
The new 2021 Chevy TrailBlazer, unlike the global truck-based model, comes on the new, modern, unibody, modular design platform which will also be the base of the Buick Encore EX model which debuted already in China but will also join Buick’s crossover range in the US. It is a GM VSS-F platform, one of the new-generation modular designs which GM intends to exploit by 2025. The VSS or vehicle strategy sets come in different forms and F in the name is for the front-wheel-drive vehicles. Other designs include VSS-R for the rear-wheel-drive setup and VSS-T for the body-on-frame design.
Chevy hasn’t revealed what are exact dimensions of the model but it should be sized similar to the Jeep Compass.
The styling of the model gets obviously inspiration from the recently introduced mid-size Chevy Blazer which is a good thing. The model adopted a Camaro-like frontend design formed of the large grille which intrudes bumper section and split-style headlights.
The profile gets also expressive design with complex sheet metal sculpting. The floating roof style is also modern trend applied to the model.
Chevy promised also the RS trim version with the standard two-tone roof and more personalized styling.
Chevy hasn’t also talked about the size of the model’s interior and cargo capacity. But the new TrailBlazer comes with the modern-design interior and will provide a long list of standard features.
The dash includes simple instrument cluster design similar to that of the larger Equinox. The center touchscreen sits above physical controls for audio and climate while pair of horizontally-oriented air vents are above. Dynamic dash lines and contrasting trim around air vents improve the impression and the RS version will also get red accents on the dash while red stitching will be used on the seats.
Chevy said that TrailBlazer will possess standard safety tech including active lane control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane departure warning. The systems like adaptive cruise control, parking assist and HD rearview camera will be in the optional equipment list.
2021 Chevy TrailBlazer Release, Price
The all-new 2021 Chevy TrailBlazer will reach the market in early 2020. More details about the model’s equipment and powertrains should appear closer to the market launch.
As for the price, expect the base version prized around $22, 000. With most of the equipment onboard, the price should reach $30, 000.
