2021 Jeep Wrangler Redesign, Price, Specs, and Engines

2021 Jeep Wrangler Redesign, Price, Specs, and Engines. The iconic Jeep Wrangler is a rare body-on-frame, off-road specialized SUV that survived on the market while the names like the Nissan Xterra, Toyota FJ Curser, Hummer H3 and Ford Bronco become the part of history. The better times for these kinds of vehicles are coming and Ford Bronco will return on the scene while there are also reports that new-gen Nissan Xterra and Hummer H3 might see the light of day. No matter what happens, the recently redesigned Wrangler will be ready for the competition and the 2021 Jeep Wrangler should also have more aces up in its sleeves.

FCA redesigned the Wrangler for the 2018 model year and it appeared in the familiar form but with more tech and safety features onboard and with the upgraded powertrains. The Wrangler comes with the V-6-unit, turbocharged engine option and mild-hybrid system but there should be more powertrain solutions in time for the 2021 model year. Jeep should bring the EcoDiesel unit to the US while Europe gets already a distinctive turbodiesel unit. However, Jeep promised also the plug-in hybrid version and it could be here in time for the 2021 version.

Other changes will include some equipment mixing between the trims while Jeep could add a few new options.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Powertrains, MPG

At the performance level, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler will expand the powertrain range further. There will be V-6 and turbocharged four-cylinder gas engines both available with the mild-hybrid setup but customers will also get more fuel-efficient turbodiesel and plug-in hybrid versions as well.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Specs

A long-running 3.6-liter V-6 engine will be available with the six-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions. The engine makes 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and can be aided with the eTorque mild-hybrid system.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will also benefit from the eTorque setup while coming with the 8-speed automatic transmission exclusively. The turbo-4 unit makes 270 hp and torque of 295 lb-ft.

The 2021 version will also offer a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine used also in the light-duty Ram 1500. The engine will make 260 hp and torque of 442 lb-ft. The diesel powertrain should provide a considerably better fuel economy than the gas-powered versions. The EcoDiesel Ram 1500 manages up to 32 mpg on the highways.

As for the plug-in hybrid version, it should adopt a similar setup as the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. A 3.6-liter V-6 will again have the role in this setup but combined with the electric motors and battery pack. The Pacifica gets 260 hp from this system while the 16-kWh battery manages up 33 miles of the pure electric drive per change. It’s not clear what size of the battery would be in the Wrangler version but we expect 25-30 miles per charge.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Design

There are no many official details about the next 2021 Jeep Wrangler but what is sure the model won’t change much visually. Jeep hasn’t made radical surgery on the model’s appearance for the recent makeover and there won’t be notable changes in that regard soon either.

The off-road-ready Wrangler will again return in two-door and four-door body styles and with removable top. The seven-slot grille, circular headlights, exposed door hinges, chunky fender flares and the tailgate-mounted spare wheel will remain model’s characteristics for a long time.

The Wrangler plug-in hybrid will also be identical to the regular versions and the charging port will just be a visible distinction.

Interior, equipment

The cabin of the next Wrangler will appear in the same form as the current version. There will again be the dash with the dominating circular elements and handsome center console. The high-spec models will come with the nicer materials and some neat trim touches.

As for the available equipment, the base Wrangler will get some basic elements like the 17-inch steel wheels, tow hooks, bush-button start, six speakers, a 5-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, etc. Above the base trim, Jeep will also offer automatic headlights, leather-wrapped steering wheels, 18-inch wheel, larger 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio and more.

The leather upholstery, keyless entry, heated seats, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, special exterior and interior details will be the part of the top trims or available as the options at extra cost. The model will also offer active safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors organized in optional packages.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Release, Price

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler will appear in the second half of 2020 while the plug-in hybrid could wait for 2021 for the launch. The price should against start from around $28, 000. The plug-in hybrid will demand around $10, 000 more than a non-hybrid version. The EcoDiesel will also be the pricey option with about $4000 over the base V-6 gas engine.
